Swimming Laps

FREESTYLE TECHNIQUE

The most basic goal for optimising technique - is to swim as fast as possible, whilst expending the least amount of energy. To achieve this, we are always looking to minimise resistance at the same time as maximising propulsion. Over the next few pages, I will break down the freestyle stroke into its basic components. Within these breakdowns, you will be provided with videos to demonstrate the movement, drills to isolate them in your own practice, and cues to visualise during your full stroke. Although no swimmer in history has ever had the 'perfect' stroke - through thoughtful repetition of appropriate movements - you will begin to optimise your own freestyle technique.
